FAQ
Who attends the events?
People of all ages, genders, and walks of life. People travel from Liverpool, Blackpool and other nearby areas to meet. We have founders of EA organisations, people working on EA-side projects, students, researchers, people who have recently discovered EA, and people who just come for the fun intellectual debates and great vegan food!
I'm new to Effective Altriusm. Will I fit in?
Of course! We often have people attend who are new to EA. As long as you have some interest and openness to the ideas you’re welcome here.
What kind of events do you run?
You can see a full list of our previous and upcoming event on the EA Forum here.
How is this different from the Manchester EA Student group?
The Student Group is exclusively for students at Manchester University, while the City Group is open to everyone, including students. The City Group provides locals, professionals and those working in EA with a community of their own – and offers students a way to stay connected to EA after they graduate.
What are the goals of this group?
Our goal is to build an active EA community in Manchester and the North of England. The main way we plan to do that is by organising a calendar of awesome events each year. We want EA-aligned people living here to be able to attend regular events, make new friends, and get the support and community they need as they work on making the world a better place.
Who runs the EA Manchester City Group?
Bryn Hopewell and Hannah Tookey. We’re independently run and funded but we collaborate closely with other Effective Altruism organisations like EA UK, the EA Manchester Students group and CEEALAR.
Can I run an event, collaborate with you or volunteer to help?
Yes! We would love to hear from you. Get in touch via ea.manchester.city@gmail.com.
